After a hard week finally we went back to the house. Due to my husband´s work we have only a chance to work together on sundays. I think it´s not so easy to be a daiku in Japan, you have to work really hard, even on holydays. My parents in law came to the old house to visit us and take a look at our project. They´re really interesting how we do, how it looks, and I´m happy to see them there. As I´ve told, Tako wanted to remove the tatami, to could see the basement of the house, which is in bad condition. He decided to remove totally the tatami of 2 traditional rooms, he thought it´s the best place to start in.

 For religious reasons the space of the house for the “神様”God´s altar must be handled in another step. He removed it all, and he found half rotten basement which he removed. Meanwhile, I was working at the garden and could open new areas we can use with the time.

Then, under the second sunday of February we went to a home center to get some materials to make a stove. Tako got a big barrel from work and he wanted to make a stove to burn up the wood trash we have on the garden. He bought also an iron rod and a roof tile to make it. He welded the pieces of iron he cut from the rod and made an inside iron web as a basement to the stove. But he didn´t notice that the iron rod had an oily surface, and that mades the welding process really complicated.

But after he could weld it all we went to the house, started the fire and while he was burning some wood, I continued to remove the unwanted plants. After one hour the garden started to see diferent. Bigger spaces appeared and the cold day were saved by the stove. Unfortunately we didn´t have enough of time, the house doesn´t have electric connection and the twillight came. Then we killed the fire and continue cleaning the garden until Tako could take off the iron net he´ve made. Due to the high temperature the iron were deformed and some parts brokes. Now, we have to think about another way to make a ”grill net”. Anyways, we were happy with the work we made during the day and talked with some neighbors who crossed away on the road next to the house.

I didn´t mention before that we started to finance our projetct on a really unusual way. We started to sell some items we´ve found inside the house and don´t need. Last 2^nd February we sold a gold ring we found, and got some money we´re using now only for get material for the renovation. We also want to reuse material we eventually can get for free, and make the renovation ”self-financed”. We also found in the house really antique japanese dishies. Those are lacquered with 漆urushi , a natural lacquer with a gorgeous black color. Now I´m thinking how to sale? Because those are made around in 1920 and were stored in their original wood boxes. Maybe I could sell them on Amazon..?

Comienzos de febrero, Abriendo la base de la casa.

Depués de una dura semana fuimos de nuevo a la casa. Debido al trabajo de mi pareja tenemos únicapente la posibilidad de ir a trabajar juntos los domingos. Pienso que no es tan fácil ser daiku en Japón, ya que tienes que trabajar realmente duro, incluso en los días festivos. Mis suegros vinieron a la casa para echar un ojo a nuestro proyecto. Ellos parecen estar muy interesados en cómo hacemos, cómo se ve y yo soy feliz al verlos aquí. Como había contado, Tako quería retirar el tatami para poder ver la base de la casa, la cual está en mala condición. Èl decidió quitar completamente el tatami de las dos habitaciones tradicionales ya que pensó que era el mejor lugar para comenzar.

Por razones religiosas, el altar de Dios “神様” Kamisama en la casa debe ser reparado en otro momento. Èl quitó el tatami y encontró la base medio podrida la cual removió después. Mientras tanto, yo estuve trabajando en el jardín y pude abrir nuevas áreas que podemos usar con el tiempo.

Luego, durante el segundo domingo de febrero fuimos a un home center para comprar algunos materiales para hacer una estufa. Tako recibió en el trabajo un barril grande y quería hacer de él una estufa grande para poder quemar la basura de madera que tenemos en el jardín. También compró una varilla de hierro y tejado metálico para hacer la estufa. Soldó los pedazos de varilla que cortó e hizo una parrilla para la base de la estufa, pero no se dio cuenta que la varilla tenía una cubierta de aceite, haciendo el proceso de soldadura muy complicado.

Pero en cuanto pudo soldar todo nos dirigimos hacia la casa, prendimos el fuego y, mientras él iba quemando algo de madera, yo continué removiendo la maleza. Pasada una hora el jardín comenzó a verse diferente. Aparecieron nuevos espacios y la estufa nos salvó del frío del día. Lamentablemente no contábamos con suficiente tiempo, la casa aun no cuenta con electricidad y el crepúsculo llegó. Entonces apagamos el fuego y continuamos arreglando el jardín hasta que Tako pudo sacar de la estufa la parrilla inferior que había hecho. Debido a las altas temperaturas, el hierro se deformó y algunas partes se rompieron. Ahora tenemos que pensar en otra forma de hacer una nueva parrilla. En todo caso nos sentimos felices por el trabajo hecho ese día y hablamos con algunos vecinos que cruzaron frente a la casa y por la carretera.

No mencioné antes que hemos comenzado a financiar nuestro proyecto de una forma muy inusual. Comenzamos a vender algunas cosas que hemos encontrado dentro de la casa y no necesitamos. El pasado 2 de febrero vendimos una argolla de oro que encontramos en la casa y obtuvimos algo de dinero que usamos ahora para comprar materiales para la renovación. También queremos re usar materiales que eventualmente podemos adquirir gratis, y hacer así del proyecto ”auto-financiado”. Encontramos también vajilla japonesa muy antigua. Fueron lacados con 漆 urushi, una laca natural con un espectacular color negro. Estoy pensando en cómo vender eso? Porque fueron hechos aproximadamente en los años 20 y estuvieron almacenados en sus cajas originales de madera. Quizá los puedo vender en Amazon..?
